Smart Talks - Sustainable Energy

22 Jun 10:00 - 11:00

Online (på engelska)

In a series of events, Smart City Sweden invites experts in different areas to discuss city challenges and opportunities and give examples from how Sweden is working with the discussed issues. We are sending the event live from our studio in Stockholm.

In this second SmartTalk, we will discuss renewable energy and energy efficiency, together with experts in the field. We will discuss the increasing need for renewable energy, and demonstrate best practice and solutions from Sweden.

Renewable energy in southern and eastern Africa

In the first session, we will discuss how Swedish companies can help with sustainable solutions in Africa, with a focus on southern and eastern Africa, and how we together can increase collaboration and learn from each other. Joining this session is Faisa Abdi, founder, and CEO of QC Renewable Energy, who has experience working with sustainable energy solutions in countries in the eastern parts of Africa. The company has an ongoing installation of 500 solar-powered batteries that store energy, illuminate streets and install  Solar Home Systems (Off-grid system) in three municipalities in Somaliland.

Joining is also Peter Bennich, Senior Policy Advisor at the Swedish Energy Agency, who is responsible for the agency’s participation in the UNIDO project “Energy-efficient lighting and appliances” in the southern and eastern part of Africa. The project will assist with the capacity building of instruments for energy efficiency and the rebuilding of local markets for energy efficiency.

Energy Efficiency – Examples from Sweden

In the second session, we will talk about how citizens’ engagement can help increase energy efficiency. This will be exemplified with the district of Hammarby sjöstad in Stockholm, presented by Jörgen Lööf, CEO at ElectriCITY, that is working in the district. Joining is also Örjan Lönngren, Policy Analyst in Energy and Climate at the City of Stockholm, who will demonstrate how Stockholm is working with energy efficiency today.
