Ecohelix Wins Green Product Award 2025 for Sustainable Packaging Innovation

Ecohelix has been awarded the Green Product Award 2025 for its bio-based heat-sealable coating, WOODMER® Seal. The award was presented on May 15 at a ceremony at the Nordic Embassies in Berlin, recognizing the company’s pioneering work in developing a sustainable alternative to conventional plastic coatings used in packaging.

Now in its twelfth year, the Green Product Award highlights innovative and sustainable solutions from around the world. This year, more than 1,500 entries from 45 countries were submitted. WOODMER® Seal was selected as the winner in the Packaging category following a rigorous evaluation by a jury that assessed design, innovation, and sustainability, in collaboration with the IKEA Foundation.

WOODMER® Seal is a fiber-based coating derived from renewable wood biomass. It offers up to 90% lower emissions compared to traditional plastic-based coatings and enables strong, reliable heat seals for a wide range of non-food packaging applications, including e-commerce, industrial, and agricultural packaging. In the CEPI Standard Mill Test, WOODMER® Seal earned a perfect recyclability score of 100/100, underscoring its contribution to circularity and waste reduction.

“Winning the Green Product Award is a tremendous honor and a strong affirmation of our innovation focus and the years of persistent research behind WOODMER® Seal. It’s also a tribute to our fantastic team and close collaboration with industry partners,” says Petri Oinonen, CEO and founder of Ecohelix.

Ecohelix is rooted in Sweden’s bioeconomy and is part of a growing ecosystem of companies driving the development of sustainable, wood-based material solutions.
