Ecohelix Wins Packaging Europe Sustainability Award 2025
Ecohelix has received the Packaging Europe Sustainability Award 2025 in the Pre-Commercial – Renewable Materials category for WOODMER® Seal, a bio-based heat-sealable coating designed to replace fossil-based plastics in flexible packaging. This award is among the most prestigious in the industry, recognizing solutions with the potential to make a real impact on packaging sustainability.
WOODMER® Seal is produced from forest industry side streams and delivers the barrier and sealing properties required for modern packaging. The innovation was developed in close collaboration with Domsjö Fabriker in Örnsköldsvik, where the process has been industrially verified. Preparations for the first commercial demo production are now underway through a new 20-year partnership agreement.
The award is a testament to Ecohelix’s commitment to innovation and the strong partnerships that have enabled this material’s development.
"This award is clear proof of the intense and focused effort our team has invested in developing new materials. Creating a high-performance bio-based alternative to fossil plastics is no easy task, but the trust and support we’ve received from our partners during the industrial verification of WOODMER® Seal has been crucial. I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to the entire Ecohelix team and our investors – our shared mission is now stronger than ever. We are ready to scale up and help the industry take the next step toward a more sustainable and circular future,” says Petri Oinonen, CEO and founder of Ecohelix.
