Flow Below in Umeå Receives Funding for Sustainable Water Management
Sweden is taking the next step towards more sustainable water use. As part of the Water Wise Societies initiative, eight projects have received funding to explore, test, and validate innovative solutions for the future of water management.
Among the selected companies is Flow Below from Umeå, which, through the project “Level to Flow”, will develop and validate an algorithm to calculate flow from level data in pumping stations. By mapping 60 pumping stations, the project enables identification of inflow and infiltration – an important piece in improving the efficiency of water and sewage systems and reducing the load on treatment plants.
As part of the call “Realize innovative solutions with a customer”, eight companies have received funding.
“We saw a need to lower the barriers to testing new ideas. Often there is the will and expertise – but not quite the space to experiment. This call is designed to do exactly that: a way to try, learn, and potentially spark something bigger,” says Johan Strandberg, Work Package Leader Innovation, Water Wise Societies.
Flow Below is one of several companies now getting the opportunity to develop and demonstrate their solutions together with potential customers. Other funded projects include technologies to reduce molybdenum emissions, biochar filters for PFAS treatment, and innovative tools for climate adaptation.
