North Sweden Cleantech Named a Good Practice by Interreg Europe
North Sweden Cleantech has been recognized as a Good Practice by the Interreg Europe Policy Learning Platform. The recognition highlights the platform’s commitment to driving innovation, green technology, and sustainable business development in northern Sweden.
According to the motivation, North Sweden Cleantech has successfully built a strong network of cleantech companies and stakeholders through regional collaboration. The platform currently includes more than 115 companies and is run by a partnership of publicly owned incubators, science parks, energy companies, municipalities, and regional authorities across three counties.
"The North Sweden Cleantech platform is a strong example of a regional development initiative that fosters green technology innovation and SME growth," says Laura Varisco, expert at the Interreg Europe Policy Learning Platform.
Since its launch, the platform has remained flexible and adaptable, with a focus on circular economy, industrial symbiosis, testbeds, and international cooperation.
“The North Sweden Cleantech partnership is now well established and has grown stronger with the addition of new partners across three regions. This has resulted in more companies joining the platform and a unified regional offer within testbeds, industrial symbiosis, and business development for SMEs. Together, we’re strengthening northern Sweden’s position as a frontrunner in sustainable innovation,” says Anna Mård, Project Owner for North Sweden Cleantech.
A testament to strong collaboration
This designation is an important milestone for the platform and underlines the tangible impact of collaboration across the region.
As part of continued regional and international cooperation, Region Västerbotten—lead partner in the Interreg Europe project CEI BOOST (Boosting Circular Economy Innovation through Emerging Technologies Application)—has invited North Sweden Cleantech to serve as a regional stakeholder.
“This recognition means a lot. It shows what we can achieve when we combine our strengths and our drive to make a difference. Together, we’ve built a platform that puts northern Sweden on the map as a model for sustainable innovation — and proves that real change starts with collaboration,” says Thomas Hartman, Head of External Relations and Strategic Place Development at Region Västerbotten.
The international spotlight also reflects the platform’s ability to respond to emerging needs and create value through cooperation in areas like circular economy, industrial symbiosis, and testbeds.
“The Good Practice label is a strong endorsement of our long-term work to create the best possible conditions for entrepreneurs in northern Sweden. It reflects the power of collaboration — many partners have played a part — and gives us momentum to keep building a more sustainable, innovative region,” says Fredrik Holmgren, Chair of the Steering Group for North Sweden Cleantech.
As a recognized Good Practice, North Sweden Cleantech will now be showcased on the Interreg Europe platform, where other regions across Europe can learn from its successful methods and approaches to advancing sustainable regional development.
