RISE Wood – From Materials to Building Systems and Reuse

RISE's test facility for the circular wood value chain is located in Skellefteå, providing companies with an environment where they can develop, test and verify wood-based materials, components and building systems. The facility offers equipment and expertise covering the entire value chain, from sawing, processing and drying to construction, use and reuse.

The test facility enables companies to develop new products and processes and explore how wood can be used more efficiently and in a more circular way. Ideas can be tested at both small and large scales, material properties verified and solutions developed in collaboration with RISE experts.

The facilities range from advanced measurement technology and sawmill process development to environmental and strength testing of materials and components. Finished building systems, windows, doors and wall elements can also be tested and evaluated.

From Raw Material to Finished Solution

The test facility covers several stages of the wood value chain. Companies can develop and test new wood-based materials and components, optimise material use and work on processes for sawing, processing and energy-efficient timber drying.

For structures and building systems, testing opportunities include fastenings, joints, stiffness and strength. Finished components and building systems can also be tested for properties such as airtightness, watertightness and dimensional stability under varying climatic conditions.

Circularity and Reuse

An important part of the test facility's work is to create opportunities for more circular use of wood. RISE develops methods for assessing, reusing and recycling bio-based structures and components. Companies can receive support with condition assessments, verification of suitability for reuse, and issues relating to standards and regulations.
