Last week, the reformulated EnergyWeek 2019 brought together almost 4,500 event participants from 25 countries. All the continents were represented. During the week, participants got to hear a total of 110 speakers at 21 different events or seminars. The event had more than 170 exhibitors.
During EnergyWeek in Vaasa, Northvolt was named the winner of the Energy & Innovation Award. Northvolt from Sweden was nominated for their work with the greenest battery factory in the world. Besides Northvolt, Akkurate Oy (Finland), AES Tietê & CERTI Foundation (Brazil), PSR (Brazil), DCX (Poland) and Johanneberg Science Park (Sweden) was nominated.
During this week, OECD experts from France and Spain will visit Umeå to look deeply into the city's work within circular economy. Envigas R&D department, which develops advanced pyrolysis of biomass, is located just outside Skellefteå, in the north of Sweden. Pyrolysis is the thermal decomposition of biomass which is fed into a reactor under elevated temperature and without access to oxygen. It converts the organic material into bio-carbon (or bio-coal), a little ash, bio-oil and a pyrolysis gas (syngas).
